ABOUT US

Bright Future for Young Mothers Canada (BFYMC) is a Canadian based non-profit (#839852845RR0001) that aims to empower young, adolescent mothers in Tanzania. We provide shelter, food, healthcare, and other basic necessities, as well as a nurturing environment to help these young girls create a brighter future for themselves and their families.

At the moment, BFYMC is focused on distributing healthcare kits for young mothers and their children. In addition to everyday essentials such as clothing, food, bedding, and medications, they also contain pre-natal kits for women who decide to have deliveries at home. These pre-natal kits are vital for young women who are pregnant; they reduce the risk of serious infections that can lead to child and/or maternal death. In addition, we follow up after the child is born to ensure that the child is healthy and well-nourished.

BFYMC also manages a shelter, the Centre for Young Women (CYM) where we hold weekly meeting for all the women and children in need. At these meetings, we determine who the most high-risk mothers and families are. These tend to be the poorest women, who are unable to afford food and other basic needs. We also speak to young mothers who need help with basic education and child care, to develop a plan for them so that they can continue their education.

A Message from the Founder

My name is Rosemin Janmohamed and I am the founder of Bright Future for Young Mothers Canada (BFYMC).

I was born and raised in Tanzania, with the support of the Agakhan Foundation since the age of 8. Thanks to them, I was very fortunate to be able to go to school and college, and grow up in a safe and healthy environment till the age of 18. Now, I am happily married with children and stable job at the University Health Network (UHN) in Toronto.

BFYMC is my way of giving back to my community and other young girls, mothers and children who were not as fortunate as I was, growing up in a developing nation.
